the local read
The Sullivan County cabin belt (Livingston Manor, Roscoe, Eldred, Monticello) is where the density is; Hunter and Windham cover ski season; Saugerties and Woodstock hold the Hudson Valley end. Peak demand runs from fall foliage through March · book winter weekends well ahead. Escape Brooklyn is the definitive local source for new sauna builds.

good to know
- where in new york are the sauna airbnbs?
- The density is in the western Catskills · Livingston Manor, Roscoe, and Eldred, about two hours from the city · with ski-town options around Hunter and Windham and a Hudson Valley pocket near Saugerties and Woodstock.
- wood-fired or electric?
- The Catskills lean wood-fired: barrel saunas on decks and standalone sauna sheds are the signature builds. Wood-fired runs hotter and smells better but takes 30–45 minutes to come up to temperature · part of the ritual, not a flaw.
- what should i check before booking?
- Read recent reviews for the word 'sauna' · you'll learn fast whether it actually gets hot, whether the host stocks wood, and whether it was working last month. Listing photos age; reviews don't.
- when should i book?
- Fall foliage through ski season is peak; winter weekends in Hunter and Windham book out weeks ahead. Mud season (April) is the sleeper deal · cold enough for the sauna to matter, empty enough to book last-minute.
